In 2008 we celebrated the pardoning of Dante's exile from Florence, a ceremony to take place later this year in Florence, Italy. Dante Alighieri wrote his entire poem, The Divine Comedy, during exile from Florence. Dante was exiled by the manouverings of his rival political party, which was supported by Pope Boniface the 8th, afraid of losing political power in Italy. In 2011 we'll celebrate the 700th anniversary of the writing of Inferno, the first cantica of Dante Alighieri's masterpiece trilogy - The Divine Comedy. In 2011, we'll also celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Italian language, which was fathered by Dante Alighieri, who wrote the first book ever written in Italian. The celebration will continue since 2011 is the 150th anniversary of Gustave Dore's illustrations of The Divine Comedy. Furthermore, 2011 is also the 100th anniversary of the first feature Italian film in history. Dante Alighieri is presently considered the best poet of all time. Dear Dante - We Salute You!
